Background / General description
The East Asia & Pacific region of the World Bank is establishing a series of "web hubs" across the region to improve and better manage web content and the Bank's outreach to audiences through the web. The Jakarta hub will service the web content needs of the World Bank's Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands units. The Jakarta Hub team consists of theCommunications Officer (Online Editor) and Communications Assistant (Online Producer). Both of them are key members of the external affairs team based in Jakarta and related "hub" units by ensuring that all country and topic websites in the region are populated with up to date, cutting edge content. Communication Assistant (Online Producer) will report to the Web Editor in Washington DC. The Web Editor supervises and oversees their work program under the management of the Regional Communications Manager position in HQ. Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year renewable term appointment. Note: A potential candidate has been identified and intends to apply for this position. Duties and Accountabilities
Responsibilities: The Communications Assistant (Online Producer), a member of the VPU Communications Team, supports the day-to-day operations of the unit/VPU sites, including:
  • Helping maintain the VPU web editorial calendar.
  • Preparing, packaging and adapting content for the web in English and other languages when appropriate
  • Ensuring that web content is optimized for search engines.
  • Coordinating the translation of content for the web in English and other languages when appropriate
  • Creating and publishing graphics, multimedia, video, and audio content in English and other languages when appropriate.
  • Ensuring that content complies with the Bank's web standards.
  • Publishing content to the VPU/unit sites, using the Bank's content management system.
  • Compiling and publishing reports on metrics.
  • Composing newsletters and managing distribution of e-mail alerts
  • Archiving content.

    Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in interactive communications, journalism, marketing or other related field; some relevant experience working on the web.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English. Written and spoken command of Bahasa Indonesia is desired but not required.
  • Experience working with content management systems, html, and Photoshop.
  • Experience creating multimedia and interactive content (such as slideshows, videos, and timelines).
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization and web marketing and metrics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media communications principles and other web 2.0 technologies.
  • Good time-management skills and eye for detail.
  • Good level of initiative, judgment, and decisiveness in accomplishing tasks.
  • Ability to work capably under stress and to juggle multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; sensitivity to working in a multicultural environment.
